The 2019 AOPA High School Aviation STEM Symposium brings dedicated educators from around the nation for two full days of sharing insights, ideas, and best practices for starting and building aviation STEM programs.
The AOPA High School Aviation STEM Symposium is the ONLY high school event in the nation that specifically targets aviation and aerospace content.
The need for pilots, aerospace engineers, scientists, technologists, and technicians continues to grow. Industry forecasts project shortfalls in many of these fields.
The AOPA Aviation STEM Symposium is a great opportunity for educators and administrators to discover how they can prepare students for success in these exciting and well-paying careers.
Learn from the experts in aviation education! Join us for two full days of breakout sessions, keynote speakers, and networking opportunities. This year’s symposium will feature Mark Moore, Director of Engineering, Vehicle Systems, for Uber. You will not want to miss this exciting session on the future of urban ridesharing in the sky at the end of the day on Tuesday!
The AOPA High School Aviation STEM Symposium is your chance to get to know the leaders in the field. Our speakers come with a wealth of experience in education, aviation, aerospace, and more. They will share lessons learned and provide fresh ideas to take back to your classrooms. We've provided breakout sessions designed to help you at various stages in building your aviation program, whether you're interested in starting an aviation program, adding aviation content to STEM classes, or enhancing an existing aviation initiative at your school.
The excitement about aviation education from participants at this symposium creates an energized atmosphere you'll find nowhere else!
Hear from leaders in the STEM education community and the aviation industry, including keynote speakers Ricky Arnold, Astronaut, NASA (invited); Bryan Quigley, Senior Vice President of Flight Operations, United Airlines; Mark Moore, Director of Engineering, Vehicle Systems, Uber; and Lt General Jacqueline Van Ovost, United States Air Force.
We'll focus on topics such as how to pitch an aviation program to your administration, partnering with a flight school, how to build your aviation understanding, collegiate aviation options, and bringing AOPA's free aviation STEM curriculum to your school.
We know our attendees love exhibits so we’re expanding the exhibit area this year to include additional industry experts, collegiate aviation programs, and more. Plus, there will be a dedicated time on Sunday evening and a new dinner reception on Monday evening to explore the exhibits.
Are you looking to gain input and inspiration from like-minded and passionate educators? Join us for great networking opportunities with fellow participants, including educators, administrators, university faculty, and industry leaders.
This year’s symposium features a behind-the-scenes tour of the U.S. Air Force Academy. From the cutting-edge technology in labs and research centers to the stunning midcentury modern architecture on campus, see where aviation and military leaders launch their careers. See firsthand the redesigned athletic and military training facilities that foster competition and leadership development. Experience history through military exhibits at Arnold Hall and monuments in the famed Honor Court. And experience the campus that creates fighter pilot aces and four-star generals during this full-day tour. (Additional cost of $45.)
