HQ Highlights: National Pause for GA Safety + Southern Region Flying Club Webinar + OSH 2025

AOPA Launches the National Pause for General Aviation Safety Campaign

The National Pause for General Aviation Safety aims to bring thousands of pilots together who have committed to sharpen their focus in areas relevant to how they fly.

Every pilot has a responsibility to themselves, their loved ones, the industry, and the public, to be as conscientious, disciplined, and deliberate about general aviation safety as possible. Whether flying recreational, corporate, or for the greater good, safety is at the heart of every flight.

General aviation has made huge strides in safety of the years, fatal accident rates are down about 60% since the mid-90’s, however most accidents still trace back to the same issue: pilot error. With the recent high-profile incidents in the news, AOPA and other industry leaders decided it was time to make a change.

All that is required to participate is to go to GAsafe.org, pick a few topics that match your type of flying, and spend a little time learning some tips on how you can become a safer pilot.

As a bonus, completion of a short quiz at the end of the program will earn you FAA WINGS credits.

AOPA at EAA AirVenture

AirVenture is right around the corner, and, as always, AOPA will have a whole host of events planned.

On Monday July 21st at 1:00pm at the AOPA 39 Lounge join the Air Safety Institute’s Chief Flight Instructor and eFIRC Program Manager, Mary Kuehn, for an informal Meet and Greet. This is a great opportunity to ask questions about instructional best practices, the CFI renewal process, or the latest updates to the eFIRC program. Mary will also be available to talk about broader general aviation safety trends, insights from ASI’s accident data, and what pilots and instructors can do to support safer skies. Whether you’re curious about current risk factors or interested in ASI’s safety initiatives, come join the conversation.

Thursday July 24th at 4:00pm in the AOPA Program Pavilion the Flying Clubs Team will be hosting Maximum Fun, Minimum Cost: The Wonderful World of Flying Clubs followed by the always popular Flying Clubs Social. Come by, learn about flying clubs and stay for dinner and drinks!

Regional Webinars

Coming in July we will be continuing our regional Maximum Fun, Minimum Cost: The Wonderful World of Flying Clubs webinars. This next webinar will be delivered to the AOPA Southern Region and will be taking place July 15th at 7:00pm EST. Stand for you an invitation email in the coming at the end of this month.
