YAA Event in Columbus, Ohio

Drew had the privilege of attending the Youth Aviation Adventure at the Ohio State University Airport (OSU) on Saturday May 13th. The event was well attended by BSA Scouts and other interested young folks to learn all about the aviation and also satisfy the requirements of the Aviation Merit Badge. While there, Drew had the chance to promote the You Can Fly Initiative’s scholarship opportunities for high school aged students.

Cha-cha-changes

The big News from Headquarters this month is that Steve has relocated from AOPA HQ in Frederick Maryland, to the west coast! Steve and his wife Louise are now located in Redmond, OR.  Steve still leads the flying clubs team and with Drew in Frederick, the team will be able to provide even better and easier nationwide coverage to new and existing flying clubs.  Steve will also expand west coast support for all of the You Can Fly initiatives – High Schools, Flight Training, Flying Clubs and Rusty Pilots.  Steve’s AOPA email stays the same ([email protected]), as is his phone number (301-695-2356).  So, if you live on the west coast or adjacent states, please expect to hear from Steve about flying clubs, sure, but also about the wider You Can Fly Program, as well as AOPA member outreach and support.

Austin, We’re on our Way!

Steve and Drew are travelling to Texas at the start of June for two exciting events. On Saturday June 3rd, we are meeting in San Marcos at the Commemorative Air Force building to conduct a Flying Clubs Clinic. All newly forming and existing flying clubs are welcome to attend. After a lunch on us, we will take some time to discuss flying club operations, safety, training, and strategic planning. The event starts at 12pm local, if you would like to attend, please click here to register. We ask that no more than 3 members per club attend. Also, we cannot accommodate walk in attendees, so please let us know ahead of time if you plan to attend!

On Sunday June 4th at the Austin Airport Armed Forces Reserve Center, Steve and Drew are participating in an Aviation Day hosted by the Austin Hill Country 99s. There, they will present a Maximum Fun, Minimum Cost presentation discussing the benefits of flying clubs, and Steve will present an exciting seminar discussing why good pilots make bad decisions. If you are not a pilot but are a frequent passenger, be sure to attend the Flying Companion Seminar. All are welcome to learn some aviation basics and ask questions in a judgement free environment. Learn how to be an active participant during flights for maximum enjoyment. Please click here to sign up for this event

If you have any questions about either of these events, please contact Drew.
