Friday marked the first day of spring and AOPA headquarters is buzzing with talk of Sun ‘n Fun. The Sun ‘n Fun International Fly-In and Expo in Lakeland Florida has always represented the new-year kickoff of the fly-in season, and for us at AOPA it marks the first of seven major events on our calendar.
Following the week of Sun ‘n Fun (April 21-26) we will be planning events in Salinas, California; Frederick, Maryland; Oshkosh, Wisconsin; Anoka, Minnesota; Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Tullahoma, Tennessee. Each event includes a Flying Club get-together and a related presentation.
As for Sun ‘n Fun, the AOPA Flying Club Initiative will be hosting a presentation on Thursday, April 23 at 11 a.m. on starting and developing a flying club. Later that evening, we will be inviting our AOPA Network Clubs back to the AOPA Activity Tent for a happy hour. The happy hour is intended to provide clubs with an opportunity to ask questions, network, and meet the AOPA staff. If you can’t make it to our Thursday events, the Pilot Community Development team will be around for questions and conversations on Friday and Saturday as well.
Also at Sun ‘n Fun will be an AOPA Rusty Pilot program on Saturday, April 25 from 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., with breakfast served at 7:30 a.m.. If you are not already familiar with the Rusty Pilot program, drop by the tent and learn how your club can host a Rusty Pilot Event with the help of AOPA.
I look forward to meeting many of you in person, and thank you for being part of the AOPA Flying Club Initiative.
